The Classic Shirt is a close-fitting classic women's shirt with a crisp collar and stand, waist darts, and button placket with a wide cuff.

The Shirt Dress has a bit more room built-in, but still has the option to make crisp collars and plackets.

The patterns are PDF downloads in many formats in sizes 34-54 (scroll down for size charts or click here).

For both patterns, you can make the fit a little more relaxed by omitting the waist darts in the front and maybe in the back as well.

The instructions include detailed step-by-step instructions on how to sew both collars and plackets and get a perfect result!

 

FABRIC:

FABRIC REQUIREMENTS

Sew your shirt or shirt dress in thin to medium-weight woven fabric. We like classic cotton poplin, oxford, chambrey or lawn, but there are many other options. Just make sure the fabric has some body and crispness to it if you want to have the classic button-down shirt look.

Apart from the fabric, you will need:

  • Interfacing for the front edge button plackets, for the collar and collar stand, and for the sleeve placket. You can piece it together, but if you don’t want that, you will need the length of the front edge. I recommend Pellon 950F [Afilliate link]or Pellon PLF36 [Afilliate link], or similar, depending on fabric and desired look.
  • 11 - 15 buttons, size 13 mm ( 1/2”)
